Take it step by step
- Agree one currency and unique participant names before adding expenses. Convert foreign receipts at an agreed rate outside the tool.
- Add each receipt with its actual payer. Select only the people sharing it; use equal shares, weighted shares, percentages totalling 100, or exact amounts totalling the receipt.
- Record repayments separately: they reduce debts and do not add to group spending.
- Review balances together, then download or copy the summary before leaving.
A situation to try.
Aarav pays INR 3,000 for a hotel shared by Aarav, Diya and Kabir. Diya pays INR 900 for dinner shared by Diya and Kabir. Aarav receives INR 2,000; Diya owes INR 550 and Kabir owes INR 1,450. If Diya already repaid INR 550 to Aarav, only Kabir owes INR 1,450.
Use the tool’s synthetic example first where available. The example here explains a decision; it is not a reported benchmark result.
Before you call it done.
- Exclude anyone who did not join a shared meal.
- INR 100 divided three ways becomes 33.34, 33.33 and 33.33 in participant order. The shares total exactly 100.
- Confirm payers and repayments against receipts.
- Download before closing: there is no automatic group storage or synchronisation.
Know the limits.
Suggested net settlements may redirect payments between people. The greedy algorithm does not guarantee a globally minimal number of transfers. No actual payments or live exchange rates. Integer minor units are used within bounded amounts; the technical reference explains number representation, not tool certification.
This tool’s current boundary: Single supplied currency, no exchange-rate fetching or actual payments. Largest-remainder rounding; net transfers may differ from original debts. Nothing is automatically saved.
Evidence and scope
Technical source guidance and task-specific output checks. These do not establish that every file, browser or device passes.
