Official service: Unique Identification Authority of India. IndiaDigital is independent. Enter identifiers, credentials and OTPs only on the authority’s service.

Take it step by step

  1. Check the name on your existing Aadhaar against the supporting identity document. Decide whether this is a spelling correction or a larger name change.
  2. Read UIDAI’s current supporting-document guidance. The evidence needed depends on the change; do not assume a self-edited scan is proof.
  3. UIDAI directs name corrections and name changes to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra. Use UIDAI’s official centre/appointment guidance to plan your visit.
  4. Take the required original documents and review the proposed spelling, language and other details before confirming the update request.
  5. Keep the acknowledgement and use the official status service. A submitted request is not an approved change.
A CONCRETE EXAMPLE

A situation to try.

If a certificate spells your surname differently, compare the actual documents first. Editing the spelling on a scanned Aadhaar copy does not update UIDAI’s record and should not be submitted as altered evidence.

Use the tool’s synthetic example first where available. The example here explains a decision; it is not a reported benchmark result.

Before you call it done.

  • Read the accepted-document list for your exact case.
  • Check the proposed English and local-language spelling.
  • Retain the official acknowledgement; keep identifiers out of public screenshots.

Know the limits.

The document-update service and a demographic name change are different requests. Fees, accepted evidence and exception handling must be confirmed with UIDAI. IndiaDigital cannot submit or approve the change.
